While most of us head to the Disney Parks for family fun, it doesn’t mean you can’t learn something interesting while you’re there. Walt Disney was always a fan of American history, and it shows through his designs for both Disneyland and Walt Disney World. If you’ve got history buffs in your family (or you’d just like your kids to learn something new), here are four great places to learn American history at Walt Disney World Resort!
The American Adventure
The American Adventure is located at Epcot in the America Pavilion. It’s a 30 minute show featuring audio-animatronics of iconic American figures such as Susan B. Anthony, Thomas Jefferson, Alexander Graham Bell, and Teddy Roosevelt. It is hosted by Benjamin Franklin and Mark Twain. It tells the story of our nation’s history alongside projection film footage and the famous Disney song, “Golden Dream”.
The Hall of Presidents
Located in the Liberty Square area of Magic Kingdom, the Hall of Presidents is an opening day attraction. It includes audio-animatronic figures of all 44 U.S. presidents. This 25-minute show features speeches from George Washington and our current sitting president. It is truly an impressive sight to see every president lined up on stage!
The Muppets Present…Great Moments in American History
This fun, 10-minute show takes place just outside the Hall of Presidents in Liberty Square at Magic Kingdom. It is hosted by the Muppets, who pop out of the upper windows to share stories about the Declaration of Independence and the Midnight Ride of Paul Revere. The show alternates, so be sure to stop by more than once to catch all the antics of Kermit, Miss Piggy, Gonzo, and Sam Eagle!
The Carousel of Progress
This attraction is located in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom, and was originally built for the 1964 New York World’s Fair. It tells the story of a “typical” American family throughout the decades, including stops in the 1900’s, 1920’s, 1940’s, and the 21st century. The theater itself rotates, showing you scenes that feature the changes in technology and major events over time. It’s song, “There’s a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow” is almost as catchy as “it’s a small world!”
