“When the crypt doors creek and the tombstones quake, spooks come out for a swinging wake…”
Happy Halloween everyone! I’ve put together some of my favorite ideas for celebrating a Disney Halloween. So get ready for sinister treats, spooky decorations, and crafty pumpkins, plus some not-so-scary DIY costume ideas!
Disney Halloween Playlist
Let’s kick things off with a Disney-themed Halloween playlist that will set the tone for the festivities. Here are my picks for a spooky Disney soundtrack:
- “This is Halloween” – The Nightmare Before Christmas
- “The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror Theme” – The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror
- “Grim, Grinning Ghosts” – The Haunted Mansion
- “Be Prepared” – The Lion King
- “I Put a Spell on You” – Hocus Pocus
- “Cruella De Vil” – 101 Dalmatians
- “Poor Unfortunate Souls” – The Little Mermaid
- “Heffalumps and Woozles” – The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
- “The Skeleton Dance” – The Skeleton Dance (Silly Symphonies Short)
- “Prince Ali (Reprise)” – Aladdin
- “Friends on the Other Side” – The Princess and the Frog
- “Hellfire” – The Hunchback of Notre Dame
- “Night on Bald Mountain” – Fantasia
- “Oogie Boogie’s Song” – The Nightmare Before Christmas
- “What’s This?” – The Nightmare Before Christmas
You can find all of these classics on my Disney Halloween playlist! Here is my favorite Halloween song:

Disney Halloween Movie Marathon
Looking for some weekend movie picks? Here are the top five Disney movies perfect for a Halloween marathon:
- Hocus Pocus (1993)
- The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
- Tower of Terror (1997)
- The Haunted Mansion (2003)
- Halloweentown (1998)
Of course, you’ll definitely want to check out Freeform’s 13 Nights of Halloween lineup. It starts Thursday, October 19th and ends in a Hocus Pocus marathon on Halloween night.
Disney Halloween Party Ideas
Hosting a party this year? Here are a few great ideas for themes to work with:
- The Haunted Mansion
- Pirates of the Caribbean
- The Nightmare Before Christmas
- The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror
- Hocus Pocus
- Disney Villains
- Monsters, Inc.
What I love best about this mix is that it’s easy to find the perfect fit for any level of spookiness. From not-so-scary to totally chilling, so you adjust the decor and theming to meet your needs. I’ve created a Pinterest board for each party so you can start searching for ideas!
Disney Pumpkin Carving Ideas
Whether or not you’re throwing a party, you’ll probably want some cute pumpkins to showcase outside your door. I’ve found some ideas that fit all levels of talent – from simple cut-and-paste methods to more elaborate carving templates.
Full disclosure here: As much as I’d love to spend an afternoon carving detailed pumpkins, I’m more of a paint and glue stick kind of person. What about you?
Disney Halloween Decor, Crafts & Activities
Let’s bring some of the decorations inside with some DIY crafts and activities. One of the things I love best about the holidays is the urge to create. My favorite memory of Halloween growing up is making “Ghosts in a Graveyard” with my aunt every year. To this day she still sends me the supplies each October so I can make it with my own kids.
I’ve created a Pinterest board filled with ideas for fun activities you can do with your family (or on your own, because they’re just fun). I hope that some of these can become treasured traditions that you look forward to each holiday season!
Disney Halloween Recipes and Treat Ideas
Okay, thinking of (grim grinning) Ghosts in a Graveyard has me hungry (I’ll admit – it does double-duty as a dessert AND a decoration). You know I love Disney recipes, so I’ve created a Pinterest board filled with delicious treats and savory delights. I’ve even included a few favorites straight out of the Disney Parks (such as Mickey Mouse Pumpkin Beignets).
So what’s on your Halloween menu this year?
DIY Disney Halloween Costumes
I’ve learned that there are three types of people when it comes to Halloween: those who want to buy their costumes, those who want to make their own, and those who wait until the last minute and need to scrounge up something really quickly.
If you prefer to buy your costumes and be done with it, my favorite places to look are the Disney Store, Etsy, and Mom Approved Costumes.
But if you’re in the latter two groups (yes, even if you only have a few hours to turn your child into a Disney Princess), I’ve got you covered. Here is my collection of DIY Disney Halloween costumes that are perfect for the whole family. I’ll be adding more as I find them, so be sure to follow me on Pinterest!
In a pinch, you can also “Disney Bound” your way through trick-or-treating – emulate a favorite Disney Character by creating an outfit themed to their signature colors and features.
Tip: If you find comfortable costumes for the kids, they’re perfect for making trips to the Disney Parks even more fun!
The Ultimate Disney Halloween
Of course, the best way to celebrate a Disney Halloween is to go straight to the source – take a Halloween-themed Disney vacation! I can help you plan the ultimate Disney Halloween at no additional cost. Here are just a few of the ways you can trick-or-treat with Disney:
Walt Disney World® Resort
You won’t want to miss Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. This special ticketed event includes the Hocus Pocus Villains Spelltacular, the Boo-to-You Halloween Parade, and the Happy HalloWishes Fireworks Show. It also offers an opportunity to meet your favorite Disney Characters in their costumes and take home a near endless supply of candy.
Disneyland Resort®
While Disneyland Resort offers Mickey’s Halloween Party, an event very similar to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, it also has some unique experiences you won’t find anywhere else. These include special attraction overlays such as Space Mountain: Ghost Galaxy, Haunted Mansion Holiday, and Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark.
Disney Cruise Line
Experience Halloween on the High Seas when you sail select itineraries during September and October. The fun includes Mickey’s Mouse-querade Party, A Nightmare Before Christmas – Sing and Scream, Haunted Stories of the Sea, and the Pumpkin Tree.
