Are you setting a New Year’s resolution for 2018? The start of the year seems like a great time to set new goals, but sometimes there are “obstacles” that get in our way. Well I’m here to let you know that a vacation doesn’t have to be one of them. Here’s how to keep your New Year’s resolutions on a Disney vacation!
Resolution: Get Healthier
Let’s start off with the hard one: you’re on vacation and you want to treat yourself, but at the same time you want to stick to your fitness and nutrition plans. Here are a few tips to help you keep the balance:
- Look up restaurant menus before you go so you can maintain a good nutritional balance (Disney restaurants offer a wide variety of quality options).
- Stay at a Deluxe Resort with a fitness center so you can get your workout in (or take advantage of jogging trails at any Disney Resort).
- Plan your trip around a runDisney event such as a 5K or a Half Marathon (Disney Cruise Line even offers a race on Castaway Cay).
Remember, you can easily walk 10 miles or more during a full day in the Disney Parks!
Resolution: Save Money
Spending on a vacation may seem like an odd way to save money this year, but consider this: travel makes a great family gift and can save you on buying individual presents. It also holds greater value and you’re investing in lasting memories together. Here are a few simple ways to save money on your Disney vacation:
- Work with a vacation planner who specializes in Disney (we know all the discounts and can get you the best pricing).
- Take advantage of Disney perks such as free transportation and all-inclusive packaging (pre-budget your meals with the Disney Dining Plan).
- Purchase supplies and souvenirs in advance, such as ponchos, autograph books, and costumes (it’ll be cheaper and you’ll have a a greater variety to choose from).
Focus on value over the lowest price so you can still have the best experience possible.
Resolution: Improve Self-Care
With as much energy as we put into other people and projects, we also have to remember to invest energy in ourselves. Vacations are a great way to relieve stress and give our minds a break. Here are a few ways to add even more self-care practices into your trip:
- Book a spa appointment at one of Disney’s famous locations: Senses (Disney World or Disney Cruise Line), Mandara Spa (Disneyland), or Laniwai (Aulani).
- Stay in a family suite or 1-Bedroom Villa so you can have some quiet space away from the kids at night.
- Reserve a meal at an indulgent restaurant you’ve always wanted to try (and enjoy having someone else cook you an elaborate meal).

Resolution: Travel More
Looking to have more adventures? You can experience the magic of Disney without limiting yourself to the continental U.S. Here are a few options to consider:
- Sail the Caribbean, Europe, or even Alaska with Disney Cruise Line.
- Finally take that family trip to Hawaii with a stay at Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa.
- Experience a VIP Tour with Adventures by Disney on one of six continents (everything except Antarctica).
If the Disney Parks are your thing, don’t forget about the six theme parks located internationally in Paris, Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Shanghai.
Resolution: Spend More Time with Family
This is the easiest resolution to keep on a Disney vacation, because it’s the one that these trips are completely focused on. Disney time equals family time. Here are some ways to keep the attention on togetherness:
- Allow each family member to share their vacation wish list; plan at least one dedicated activity for everyone.
- Enlist the help of Disney’s PhotoPass photographers to capture family memories around the parks, ship, or resort.
- Create a family scrapbook when you return to preserve favorite moments and stories.
Vacations are such a great way to escape the stresses of daily life and give our families the attention they deserve. So put those phones away and take in the moments!
Here’s to keeping those resolutions and having more fun in the new year!
