With all this Olympic fever, it’s got me thinking about what Disney has to offer Olympic-hopefuls. What would a day at Disney look like for a true athlete? Here are some ideas to do Disney like an Olympian.
Start the Day with a Morning Workout
Many of the Disney Resort hotels offer fully-equipped fitness centers on-site. They are typically open 24 hours a day, meaning you can get a great workout in early so you won’t delay your time at the parks.
- Animal Kingdom Lodge – Zahanati Massage & Fitness Center
- Animal Kingdom Lodge Kidani Village – Survival of the Fittest Fitness Center
- Boardwalk Inn – Muscles & Bustles Health Club
- Coronado Springs Resort – La Vida Fitness Center
- Contemporary Resort – Olympiad Fitness Center
- Grand Floridian Resort & Spa – Disney’s Grand Floridian Spa & Health Club
- Old Key West Resort – Old Key West Exercise Room
- Polynesian Resort – Disney’s Grand Floridian Spa & Health Club
- Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa – Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa Fitness Center
- Wilderness Lodge – Sturdy Branches Health Club
- Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club – Ship Shape Health Club
You can also enjoy one of Disney’s many jogging trails, located at nearly every Disney Resort hotel.
Add Up Some Steps at the Disney Parks
Did you know you can walk up to 12 miles during a full day at the theme parks? It’s a great time to test out that new fitness tracker you got. Enjoy your favorite attractions with the knowledge that all that time waiting in lines is good for your health (unless you’d like to avoid that).
Enjoy a Nutritious Lunch
Yes, you can eat health at Disney and still enjoy yourself (although I won’t judge you for sneaking a Mickey ice cream bar). Keep an eye out for Mickey Check meals, which are items Disney has identified as meeting their healthy nutrition guidelines (targeted at kids, but still healthy for anyone). Or review the menus ahead of time to know what your options are. If you have food allergies, don’t forget to note them in your reservation or contact Special.Diets@DisneyWorld.com. Check out this post from Disney Food Blog on Healthy Eating at Walt Disney World for more info.
Take a Pool or Recreational Break
Every Disney Resort Hotel offers a highly-themed pool the whole family can enjoy (most have more than one, in fact). There’s nothing more refreshing than an afternoon pool break after a hot day in the sun at the theme parks.
If you’ve still got energy to burn, why not start up a game of volleyball with some fellow guests? Disney Resorts offer a multitude of recreational sports, including tennis, volleyball, basketball, bike rentals, canoeing, fishing, archery, water skiing, parasailing, horseback riding, and of course, golf. You can choose from either miniature golf or one of Disney’s incredible golf courses.
Indulge in a Sports Massage
Each of the health clubs listed above includes a full-service spa that offers a variety of massages and treatments. After a day enjoying the parks and the summer sun, why not relax those tired muscles? You’re on vacation after all!
Catch an Event at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex
The ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex is located right on site near the All-Star Resorts and hosts sporting events throughout the year. Book a Disney Vacation Package to get complimentary access to the complex.
Feast Like a Champion
Disney offers high-quality dining both inside and outside the parks. Celebrate your fitness victories with a dinner at California Grill at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, overlooking Magic Kingdom and its spectacular fireworks.
Disney truly has something for everyone. And if you need more of a challenge, don’t forget you can always start training for the next runDisney marathon!
