Making the 1st Visit Special
The question I was asked the most when people found out I was taking my three month old to Disney World: Why would you take him when he won’t even remember it? The truth is that he won’t remember it. But we have photos, souvenirs, and stories we can tell him later on so he’ll know it was special.
Disney’s PhotoPass photographers love to capture family moments. Here are a few photos you may want to take with your new addition:
- Family photos in front of the theme park icons (Cinderella Castle, Spaceship Earth, Hollywood Tower Hotel, Tree of Life)
- Meeting Mickey Mouse for the first time
- Wearing his/her first set of “Ears”
- With his/her “1st Visit” button
- Wearing a Disney outfit
- With an “I’m Going to Disney” sign
- Riding Dumbo
Because we had our son in his infant seat and didn’t always want to disturb him, we parked him in front of a few classic Disney spots and took photos of him in his stroller. I also loved getting a photo of him in his Ear Hat, as it was too big and I look forward to watching him grow into it.
When it comes to souvenirs, it’s REALLY easy to get caught up in adorable outfits and colorful toys. The World of Disney in Disney Springs even has a section devoted entirely to infants. You can save by purchasing Disney outfits before you go. You can also come up with a list beforehand of souvenirs you’d like your child to have. Here are some ideas:
- Personalized MagicBand (get one free by staying at a Disney Resort hotel)
- Ear Hat (they come in child and adult sizes)
- Walt Disney World Pin (they have a variety with the year on it)
- 1st Visit Button (these are free and can be found at your resort or Guest Services)
- Mickey and Minnie Plush Dolls
- Baby’s 1st Christmas Ornament (have it personalized at Disney’s Days of Christmas)
- Disney Character Layette Set
Another idea is to frame a photo from your trip for your child’s room when you get home. Disney frames are sold at World of Disney. Or you can have a mat signed by characters you meet on your trip and frame it yourself!
There is no limit to the fun you can have on a Disney vacation. Bringing your baby means sharing that magic with one more person. You’ll take home memories that will last a lifetime, and you’ll look forward to returning with your child when they’re old enough to experience it in a whole new way.
