What to Bring
Besides the general baby supplies, there are a few items you should bring that will make your trip a lot easier:
- Baby Carrier/Sling/Wrap – While a stroller will get you from Point A to Point B, there are times you will have to leave it behind (e.g. while waiting in line for/riding attractions, on Disney transportation, during shows). This is when items such as an Ergo carrier or Moby wrap will come to the rescue. Not only did it make it easier to carry our son in line, but we felt safer wearing him on certain attractions rather than holding him in our arms (plus it helps you keep your arms free for Toy Story Midway Mania).
- Extra Diapers and Baby Wipes – Running out of diapers is definitely not the way you want to end your afternoon. To save space in your luggage, services such as Amazon will deliver a package directly to your resort. You can also ship a box of supplies to yourself at the resort (note: if you’re staying at a resort with a convention center you may be charged a fee for package receipt). Baby wipes come in handy for cleaning off surfaces, cooling down a warm baby, removing sand, and treating stains among their other obvious uses.
- Hand Sanitizer – This is just good practice for anyone at the theme parks, but keep a small bottle of hand sanitizer clipped onto your stroller for quick access.
- Baby Wash and Washcloth – We used sunscreen on our son every day at the parks, so every night he got a sponge bath on a towel on the bed. Bring a trial/travel sized bottle to cut down on space and store it in a plastic bag to prevent leaks.
- Liquid Dish Detergent and Bottle Brush – If you’ll be using bottles and/or a breast pump, it’s handy to bring a trial/travel sized bottle of Dawn (or whatever you use). This way you can quickly clean your equipment as you go. I recommend storing this one in a plastic bag too.
- Bottles with Disposable Liners – Consider using liners to limit the amount of time you need to wash bottles after every feeding.
- Small Cooler – If you’ll be bringing prepared formula or expressed breast milk into the parks, pack a small cooler that you can refill with ice as you go. It’s best if it can fit into the bottom of your stroller or in a backpack so you don’t lose track of it.
- Baby Sunscreen & Sun Hat – Just like for adults, apply sunscreen periodically throughout the day, even if it’s cloudy. Bring a sun hat as well, particularly one with UV protection and a wide brim.
- Plastic/Ziploc Bags – If Baby decides to make a mess of his outfit, store it in a sealed plastic bag until you can get back to your room.
- Stroller Fan – Florida weather stays hot even into the Fall. Find an attachable stroller fan before you head to Disney, as they are hard to find in the parks or at Disney Springs. In a pinch you can always find a battery-operated misting fan for a quick cool-off session.
- Stroller Rain Cover – Speaking of Florida weather, rain can be unpredictable. If you’ll be leaving your stroller parked in the open for a while, throw a protective rain cover over it to shield it from a sudden storm. Keep in mind that even if you think you’re parking it under a dry spot a Cast Member may need to move it.
- Hearing Protection – If you are concerned about loud noises such as the fireworks or shows such as Fantasmic! you might want to consider bringing a set of headphones designed to protect Baby’s ears. We used them when we sat by the water for a showing of IllumiNations at Epcot (although our son didn’t seem to notice and slept through the whole thing).
When it comes to strollers you have a few options: bring your own, rent from Disney, or rent from an outside vendor. If you are able, I recommend bringing your own as it will be the most comfortable for your child and the most recognizable to you. If not, I recommend renting one from an outside vendor such as Kingdom Strollers or Orlando Stroller Rentals. The benefit of this is having a stroller waiting for you at your resort for use anywhere in Walt Disney World, not just within the theme parks. It will be dropped off and picked up from your resort, and costs about the same (or less) as renting directly from Disney. Here are a few trips for strollers:
- Be sure to mark your stroller with a name tag, ribbon, or other identifying insignia (there can be dozens that look the same).
- If traveling with multiple children, consider two single strollers rather than a double. This allows one parent to take one child while another heads to a different attraction.
- Bring the lightest stroller you can and be prepared to fold/stow it when necessary.
- Strollers that recline will allow for easier in-park naps than umbrella strollers.
- If your baby requires his/her infant seat with the stroller, try to choose a resort that offers monorail or walking access to the parks. Otherwise, it may be easier to drive to the parks yourself if that is an option.
